Welcome to Dublin’s 4th International Piano Festival & Summer Academy! An intensive and educational programme for advanced piano students; and an exciting concert series for the music-appreciating piano loving public. Space in the program is limited to 18 participants and for the fortunate students who gain admission, an exciting week of learning, performing, and exploring lies ahead. Those who love to listen can expect to hear great concerts performed by highly acclaimed artists and emerging artists alike.
It is a great pleasure to welcome our superb instructors, Edmund Battersby and Evelyne Brancart from Indiana University Bloomington, and Lance Coburn from the Royal Irish Academy of Music, and Artistic Director Archie Chen, all highly regarded pianists whose credentials include prestigious university positions, prizes in international competitions, and acclaimed recordings.

We are delighted our Festival is part of 2016’s summer celebration of Irish culture, sport and history taking place around the island of Ireland. Many events are centred in Dublin where you can attend the Festival concerts while also exploring the rich heritage and exciting nightlife of the city.

Not least, we welcome the participants, as they devote themselves to learning all they can from these master pianists in both the private and group master class setting and by observing other performances. In addition, Alexander Technique classes will teach students bodily awareness, how to move more naturally while avoiding pain and injury. And a seminar by top performance psychologist Jaime Ocejo-Diaz will help students deal better with issues related to performing for audiences. We also can’t wait to introduce you to a little of Irish culture, to sample some Guinness together and show you some the most beautiful sites beyond Dublin city, while resting those hands! And after all the hard work is done, we invite you to perform for real audiences in a variety of settings, including an outreach concert for the residents at Harold's Cross Hospice and a final gala concert at the Hugh Lane Gallery in Dublin.

With so many delights in store, whether you are a music lover who loves nothing better than immersing oneself in great piano playing, or an experienced pianist looking to hone your talents, we are very much looking forward to welcoming you!

About Us

Festival Director Couple
Founded in 2012 by pianists Archie Chen and Rhona Gouldson, the Dublin International Piano Festival & Summer Academy showcases mastery in piano performance and provides a series of workshops and masterclasses for advanced students of the piano to improve their own performance skills and technique. The masterclasses are open to Ireland’s public and will provide a special insight into music making.

The DIPF was created to fulfil the need in Dublin for a quality holistic program of piano and was indeed a natural progression from both Rhona's work as Founder and Director of the Piano Academy of Ireland and National Piano Festival; and Archie's vast international experience over years of teaching and performing concerts in venues such as Carnegie Hall, The Lincoln Center, National Concert Hall and the Vatican. Together they have seen a distinct need in Dublin for a combined festival and academy in the realm of piano performance that opens up spaces for international pianists to visit Dublin and perform and excel at their craft.

Our mission is to assist the next generation of pianists through a program of piano tailored to foster excellence and to promote and present the international piano masters to audiences in Dublin.
Archie Chen - Artistic Director
Over nine days from 23rd -31st July 2016, DIPF will bring concerts to the National Concert Hall (NCH) and the Hugh Lane Gallery from top class international pianists, as well as public masterclasses for piano lovers and a full academy of international pianists who will engage with a rigorous yet festive musical schedule. DIPF also offers students a unique chance to network within their own peer group on an international level, fostering relationships for a long time to come. Recreational outings include trips to see the culture and history of Dublin and to experience the city’s exciting summer nightlife. Festival participants will be mingling with visitors from around the country and from all over the world.

DIPF is aimed at all piano lovers who appreciate excellence in piano performance. Archie and Rhona are dedicated to continuing their work in striving for excellence in piano in Dublin, Ireland and to promote Dublin as a central hub for mastery in piano and enhance its reputation in the international music community.

We look forward to welcoming you to Dublin's 4th International Piano Festival & Summer Academy!
