As an Indiana native, he has long been blessed by the wealth of opportunities available at the Jacobs School, which he credits for his lifelong love of music. In middle school, he attended the IU Summer Piano Academy, from which he has received many awards and opportunities. In his five years at the Academy, he was a regular Honors Recitalist and was selected to perform for many notable artists including Karen Shaw, Jonathan Biss, Andre Watts, Fanny Waterman, and Menahem Pressler. After his first year at the Academy, he was taken under the tutelage of its director, Karen Taylor. With her guidance, he has received numerous recognitions at the state and national levels. He was a regular award winner at the Indiana Music Teachers Association’s Hoosier Auditions, which has awarded him first prize in every division at the state level.
